Hosted software model minimises upfront costs for interactive TV, web and mobile deliveryDigital and multiplatform channel-enhancing information services are here now, yet many broadcasters still need to sustain and perhaps replace existing single-platform teletext systems. SysMedia’s digital-ready Plasma Gold supports existing teletext services and allows easy migration to multiplatform - significantly reducing technology costs and minimising the duplication of production effort.
The entry-level teletext version of Plasma Gold delivers conventional teletext to analogue (PAL/SDI) and digital (ASI) output. As digital ecologies develop, simple add-on modules extend its reach to mobile, web and digital interactive TV. The system supports all popular interactive TV middlewares including MHEG-5, OpenTV, GEM/MHP and HbbTV, ensuring compatibility.
Plasma Gold’s generic authoring environment means that content can readily shared between a teletext service and other platforms without the costly need for re-authoring. As new platforms emerge, these too can be supported.
For those not ready yet to replace teletext production systems, SysMedia provides tools for service upgrade including the D-PLANET engine that converts key payload information from a PLASMA teletext service into XML for republishing in other ways - for example as part of a digital text service, or for use on a website or mobile output. If PLASMA is not used to generate the teletext service then the SysMedia Teletext Broadcast Decoder can capture the pages off air for processing into XML.
